Our Story
A proper local, done properly.
Where It All Began
The Duke of Oxford has been a fixture on the High Street for over a century. What started as a traditional Victorian alehouse has evolved — carefully, respectfully — into the gastropub it is today: a place where you can sink into a leather armchair with a pint of something local, or sit down to a proper meal that's been cooked with real care.
We've never chased trends. We believe a pub should feel like a pub — warm, unhurried, and genuinely welcoming. The kind of place where the bar staff know your name, the fire's always lit in winter, and the food is honest enough to bring you back the following weekend.
Under the current ownership, we've invested in the kitchen without losing the soul of the place. The menu changes with the seasons, the ales rotate to showcase the best of British brewing, and the welcome stays exactly the same.
Food & Drink, Done Right
We take what we serve seriously — without taking ourselves too seriously.
Seasonal & Honest
Our menu follows the seasons. We work with local suppliers wherever we can, and we change the menu regularly so there's always something worth coming back for.
Real Ales & Proper Drinks
We keep a rotating selection of cask ales alongside craft lagers, a considered wine list, and classic cocktails. There's always something worth trying at the bar.
Dog friendly
Four- legged friends are always welcome ! Whether you're joining us for a relaxing drink, a delicious meal or a catch up with friends, there is no need to leave your furry companion at home!
The People Behind the Pub
The Duke wouldn't be what it is without the team who run it every day.
